About

Hello. I'm Adam Keen, and I am 'A Keen Photographer'.

At the risk of repeating myself, I need to stress that I am not a professional photographer. Rather, I am an enthusiastic amateur (some would say over enthusiastic; again I advise you to ask my wife - she will happily tell you many a tale to prove my over enthusiasm. Like the time when I ... well lets not get into that).

I first became interested in photography when I was a child, influenced by my father (who I still count as one of my photographic hero's - not least for giving me his beloved electronic Practica when he upgraded to a Minolta - thanks Dad). However, the cost of equipment and film always got in the way.

After taking a hiatus of few years (student years - what can I say) I picked up my camera again just a few years before digital really began to take off. However, it was after I bought my first digital SLR (a Canon 300D) that I really became passionate about the hobby.

I have dabbled with many different genres, and I still enjoy challenging myself with topics out of my comfort zone. However, I have a love for the great outdoors and landscapes and nature represent the main thrust of my photographic interests. Lately, I am enjoying exploring combining astrophotography into my landscapes; albeit the opportunity to practise comes only very occasionally. I enjoy challenging myself to undertake projects - in fact I really recommend other photographers do the same - a good project can really help focus you and inspire your creativity, not to mention the benefit that comes from frequent practise.

When I am not behind a camera I am either at work as an academic within a local university, or spending time with my wonderful family. The influence of my work may in time spill into this site. As a PhD prepared educator I love to teach, and sharing what little I know about photography is something I've always been keen to do. After all, I am self taught, and without the generosity of many like minded photographers out there I'd still be frustrated most of the time (rather than just some of the time as I am today!)

I truly hope you enjoy my little corner of the web, and I encourage you all to get out there and take some pictures.

All the best,

Adam
